Guide to buying a piano

Digital piano or acoustic piano?

Digital pianos or electronic pianos are becoming increasingly popular due to the following advantages: They are portable (however, you should note that due to their sensitive electronics and cheap housing design, they should not be transported too often). You don't have to be tuned You can play at any time (with headphones) without disturbing the neighbors or other family members (although with the restriction that some people are more bothered by the clatter of keys than the actual piano playing), but some of the advantages of digital pianos are based on errors : The digital piano is cheap. - If it is of higher quality, this only applies to a limited extent, because with a little luck you can get a used piano for the price of a good new digital piano. If you compare the life expectancy of piano and digital piano, then a real piano is cheaper, because a digital piano has become electronic waste after 15 years at the latest, while a classic piano can live up to 100 years. It takes up less space. - This is clearly wrong, because the space for a digital piano with 88 keys (anything else would be out of the question as a piano replacement) is no less than that of a piano, because a standard keyboard always requires piano width and the piano at most in the Depth, depending on the size, can have a few centimeters more and is only significantly higher, which has nothing to do with parking space and lack of space. Digital pianos also have clear disadvantages: the touch dynamics ensure that the sound becomes louder or quieter, depending on how hard you play, but the actual feel that a real piano conveys (here you can feel the striking of the key The player does not experience Hammers against the string). The beginner should be able to feel a piano to learn the sensitivity for the right touch. Because within the first few seconds of play you can see whether the player has learned on a real or on a digital piano. I would like to explicitly point out here that not only the volume but also the timbre changes with the velocity. The sound radiation from the digital piano via the mostly not very high-quality loudspeakers cannot be compared with the quality of the sound generation of the complex soundboard system of an acoustic piano. It sounds "deceptively real" only as long as the comparison with a real piano is missing. Playing through headphones or using artificially reduced volume does not correspond to the acoustic conditions of natural music making and is hardly suitable for advanced practicing, since the spatial sound experience is also lacking. The mechanics of a digital instrument are just a cheap pretense of real piano mechanics, even if they are "weighted". The masses actually moved in a proper piano mechanics move in a completely different dimension and therefore completely different physical conditions apply here (inertia). If it were possible to replace the piano with the digital piano, there was no need to laboriously transport the heavy concert grand pianos or pianos to the respective event locations in order to then have to tune them. Comment from the FAZ on September 8, 2012, 2:13 p.m. Author: Christian WollfePianos, disadvantage of the hooks with these sampled instruments is that they do not allow overtone interactions. Press a chord on an acoustic. Piano and sing a note: If it resonates in terms of the undertone spectrum, it will resonate on the released, i.e. undamped strings. In the same way, an infinite number of interactions take place within the piano between the undamped strings that cannot be sampled. An ePiano would have to access an overtone database in order to be able to do this. In the meantime, because of the computing time, you can go drinking coffee until the sound has been retrieved. That is why ePianos sound sterile. Nevertheless, they are a brilliant makeshift, especially for bands etc., especially because they can usually be transported well. Our tip, a good used acoustic piano that has been overhauled in our piano construction workshop, is usually preferable to a new piano from the cheap price range. The digital piano is recommended to all those who want to be mobile or who only allow playing with headphones in their living environment. What many do not know We can equip most of our used pianos with electronic mute on request, so that in this switch position the pianos also only can be heard through the headphones.
